Mildred œMid Gordon, 90, of Wooster died Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Danbury Woods.
Mildred, daughter of Glenn and Alice Henning, was born on November 12, 1927, in West Salem, Ohio. Mildred and her two brothers and five sisters enjoyed a lively childhood, with their mom who was an excellent cook and seamstress and dad, who owned a local farm implement business.
Her life grew strong in Ohio farmland and friendships rooted during childhood have endured through every season. Mildred graduated from West Salem High School and went on to attend Kent State University where she studied Physical Education. This grew into her love for the Cleveland Indians, Ohio State Buckeyes, and all things golf, herself becoming an avid and skilled golfer. During the summer after her junior year at Kent State, Mildred met and married Keith Gordon and their first son Ken arrived the following year. Kaye and Kevin followed. She dearly loved her kids and family. Later she worked for the Wayne County Courts compiling reports for Judge Wiest for 40 years. During the final years of her long career she enjoyed assisting families adopting children.
In 1980, Mid made a commitment to follow Christ as her Lord and Savior. She joined Church of the Savior and attended Bible class and women’s groups, where again she formed cherished friendships that lasted decades.
Mildred is survived by many who loved her: son, Ken Gordon (Janice), daughter, Kaye (Gordon) Manning (Mark) and son Kevin Gordon (Georgia), grandsons Daniel, Patrick, Ricky, Winston and granddaughter Melissa; great grandchildren Liam and Elliot and Davian and sisters Rene Fry and Pat Bowman (Burt).
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Robert, Glenn, Marjorie, Onalee and Mary.
