Clara Louise Smith Patton, 100, of Wooster and formerly of Birmingham, Alabama died on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Ohio s Hospice LifeCare.
She was born August 16, 1918 in Topeka, Kansas, to Charles I. and Eunice Robinson Smith. On August 16, 1942 she married Thomas B. Patton, M.D.. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Clara was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate in 1940 from The College of Wooster with a double major in English and French. She was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother who devoted the gifts of her formidable intellect, vivid personality, warmth, and beauty to her family and friends. Clara was a member of St. James Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her children Thomas C. (Linda) Patton of Maple Falls, Washington; Sara L. Sally Patton of Wooster; and Charles J. (Mary) Patton of Evergreen, Colorado; grandchildren Thomas (Anita) Patton, Jr., Jennifer (Ben Wilder) Patton and Sara (Joseph) Zarrelli; great-grandchildren Tyler and Brett Patton and nephews Stephen (Valerie) Hansen, Donald(Emmy) Bortz, Walter (Lorraine) Bortz, and Peter (Trina) Bortz, as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Along with her husband, Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Barbara Smith Hansen; and sister-in-law Virginia Patton Bortz.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 201 N. Market St., Wooster. The family will greet friends following the service.
