WOOSTER Elton Dale Boyer, 88, of Wooster passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at his home.
He was born May 3, 1931 on a farm in Wayne County. Farming taught him to accept responsibilities that would serve a life time. Elton was the son of Orris and Helen Houser Boyer. In 1951 he married Dorothy Blough. She survives.
Elton was a 1949 graduate of Wooster High School and from 1949-1969 he worked in house/light commercial construction and related industries, (for seven years he was a carpenter, ten years a self-employed builder and three years as a lumber yard manager).
In 1969, Elton was selected to be the first Carpentry Instructor for the New Wayne County Joint Vocational School and continued in Voed for 22 years retiring in 1991. He earned a BS Degree in Education from Kent State University while working full time. With Education Certification earned as a Carpentry Instructor, Diversified Coordinator Trainer, Trade & Industry Education Supervisor, Vocational Director and Diversified Industrial Trainer. He completed graduate studies in Quality Improvement of personnel and product and developed and presented on site quality improvement training programs to business and industrial personnel. TQM (Total Quality Management) concepts were included.
He had served on the Education Committee of the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Orrville Chamber, Wayne Co. Personnel Association, IMC, served as Chairman of the Board of the Wayne Co. Credit Union, American Voed Assoc., Ohio Voed Assoc., and was a charter member and had served as President of Ohio Trade and Industrial Education Supervisor Assoc. He was awarded Ohio T & I Supervisor of the Year.
Served in the United States Military Army Reserve for 35 years having to take a mandatory assignment to the Retired Reserve at age 60. He was the principal organizer of the 555th Honors Detachment to provide military last rites at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville. He was selected as the Wayne Co. Veteran of the Year on November 11, 2006.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Dorothy are his children, James (Susan) Boyer of Keyser, West Virginia, Steven (Catherine) Boyer and Thomas (Cheryl)Boyer both of Wooster; Grandchildren, Mike, Brian, Megan, Lee, Lucas, Dani and Kirk; great-grandchildren, Marli, M.J., Emmalee, Addyson and Makenna; brothers, Arden and Lloyd both of Wooster.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ann Neilson.
Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the Noon service on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with his grandson, Brian Boyer officiating. Inurnment of ashes will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville with the 555th Honors Detachment providing military honors.
