Visitation
Mom, Lois Swanson, told me of Marge’s passing yesterday. I remember her so well from our many years at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She always had a smile and many things to tell – mostly about her dear daughters. She sent Christmas cards full of life events from all family members. She also sent many cards of greeting to me and my daughter, Kristen. She was well loved and will be missed. I am sorry for her loss.
Nan, Beth and Audrey, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was a wonderful person. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this time.
Audrey, Prayers to all your family and friends through this difficult time. Your mother lived a beautiful life. I can relate when I was 6-11 years old and listening to Dodgers games on the radio every night before going to bed.
Nan, Beth, Audrey and the entire extended Sersig family. Although I am sad that your mom is no longer with us, I am happy that she is finally at rest and reunited with Pastor, Connie, Ted and all her loved ones who went before her. She was one special person who always had a story to tell. She was such a giving and caring person who truly put others needs before her own. I was blessed to have had her as a part of my life for so many years. I pray for peace and comfort for all of you.
Nan, our sympathy to your family at this sad time. Thinking of you.
Peggy and Drew Richardson. Louisville
Dear Nan, Beth and Audrey,
I am having a day of memories of both your Mom and Dad. They were gracious, kind people and I am grateful and happy that I was able to know them. We still have the hats that your Mom knitted and remember her trips to Louisville with Nan to see Miles and others in your family. I smile at the thought they are having a Sunday reunion with Connie. Stan and I send heartfelt sympathy and loving thoughts to all of you, to the children and grandchildren.
Beth, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this time of grief. Your Mom sounds like a wonderful, loving and giving person. It is little wonder your grew up to be such and outstanding wife, mother and physician. Your Mother has left us a great legacy. Peace and Joy in the Lord Jesus,
My Deepest condolence and sympathy on the passing of your mother. (Joshua 1:9, NLT).” Even in the most severe times of trial, God is with us and His arms are sheltering us.
Mom asked me to write for her a note of condolence to all of the family in remembrance of Marge. She has fond memories of her as well as dear Pastor Jack Sersig. She wants you to know that in readIng the obituary in the CLE paper today, she thinks it is just right. Leslie Stevenson (writing for Mom)
Sending my deepest sympathy for the loss of your Mother. My prayers are with the entire family at this difficult time. I pray you find healing and strength. God bless.
Though I never knew your Mother, Audrey, or the rest of your family, just know my heart receives the burden of your loss. I’m glad I have gotten to, at least, meet and enjoy you, your husband and your Aunt in the past. So thankful you reached out to me…peace be with you & your family in this sad time.
Nan, Beth, and Audrey
I was so sorry to hear that your mother passed away. I remember her fondly…..always smiling and laughing….such a happy person.
On behalf of both Bill (Terri) and I, we send our deepest sympathies to you and your entire family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Nan, I’m so sorry for your loss, but obviously you have had a wonderful mom with many great memories shared through the years.
No doubt her influence contributed to the caring and kind ways people see in you.
May God Bless and comfort your family.
Nan, Beth and Audrey — Your letter bringing news of your Mother’s death came today. Susan and I were sad to receive that news but glad she is freed from her Alzheimer’s. Tonight, I am reflecting on our time together in Cleveland Heights, feeling connected again to the Bethlehem family as I read notes from others who were there in the mid-1970s, and thinking with gratitude about your Mom then and our correspondence since — especially her introduction to Henry VanDyke. Her obituary noted her birthday — June 16 — my mother’s birthday as well. That will assure, as Henry Van Dyke wrote, that I shall think about her with Christmas joy each day, and especially, as you will, when her birthday comes each year. May God’s peace surround you and your families and grant Margery eternal rest. Susan joins me in sending our love.
Your Mother and Dad were so pivotal in Dick’s (Ricky) life and decision to become a pastor. We very much enjoyed your Mother’s newsy Christmas greetings each year. Dick, too, is now suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. Please know, though, that he remembers Marg and Jack with great fondness. He likes to talk about the old days at Messiah, Staten Island!
Blessings to all of you and your families.
Sharon and Dick Gilbert
Your Father and Mother were so important in Dick’s (Ricky) upbringing in Staten Island and his decision to become a pastor. For many years after, we thoroughly enjoyed Margery’s newsy Christmas letters! Dick is now, also, suffering with Alzheimer’s Disease, but fondly remembers Jack and Margery. We wish God’s blessing on your family as you endure this loss.

Nan, Beth, Audrey and families,
My first thought when I learned of your mom’s death was.. Peace at last.
She was such a helpmate to your Dad. It was indeed a happy day when you all moved to Messiah Lutheran Church, and Dad became our pastor.
I was your first babysitter in Annandale. Quite the challenge, keeping track of four active little girls.
My Dad, Fred (Sam) Gilbert started a boy’s basketball team at your Dad’s request. Not to be outdone, Marge started a girl’s team. She was our playing manager. Such fun. We had to learn how to deal with the low ceiling in basement gym at church…We perfected low arced shots called church league” shots.
We have stayed in touch over the years thanks to mom’s legendary Christmas epistles and visits.
Mom was so proud of her girls, and grands. And you, in turn were wonderful daughters. You all helped in so many ways to enable mom live independently and maintain her activities, for as long as possible.
Take care of yourselves; and be gentle with each other as you grieve a life well lived.
Blessings to you and your families.

About 71 years ago, Margery stood up before an altar, and said she was my godmother; in all the turns my life took, her regular commemoration of that stood, sometimes a lighthouse, sometimes a night light, but always the light that shone from her and her family’s life, and illumined mine. Thank you, Margery, surrounded now by that light.
