Harry James œJim Straub, 87, of Wooster died on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Ohio ™s Hospice LifeCare.
Arrangements are being handled by the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.
He was born May 1, 1933 in Wooster to Harry C. and Lucille Wolf Straub.
Jim was a kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband.   He gave generously of his time and resources to his family, church and local community.   He was an active member of the Wooster United Methodist Church.   Prior to his retirement in 1988, he spent most of his career in banking for the Central Trust Company, City Loan & Savings Company and Citizens national Bank.   He graduated from Wooster High in 1951 and was very active in organizing the WHS reunions and served as an officer of the WHS Alumni & Friends organization.   Jim was active in the Wooster-Madisonburg Evening Lions Club and a life member of the Wooster Elks Lodge.   He loved animals so it was only natural for him to be actively involved in the Wayne County Humane Society where he served as Treasurer, newsletter editor and served on the building committee during their expansion.   Jim developed polio before his sophomore year at Hiram College and was very active in the polio survivors groups.   Additionally, he was a longtime volunteer at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.
His hobby during the 80s and 90s was collecting and showing classic cars, his favorite being the Corvair.   He was an active member of Friends of Corvair and the Buckeye Ramblin Rods clubs.
He is preceded in death by his best friend and wife, Linda Farmer Straub (2017), son Doug Straub (1971), son-in-law Dan Wessels (2011), former wife Millie Withrich Straub (2015) and his parents.
Surviving are children Judy Wessels, Denny (Lonnis) Straub, Jan (Pete) Goebel, Renee (Cotton) Bigham and Lori Farmer Womac; grandchildren Jamie and Kate Wessels, Nicole and Cody Straub, Jessica Wilson, Samantha Ellis, Karissa Rogers, Kassandra Trimble; sister-in-law Amy Rowland and nephew JR Rowland, and numerous great grandchildren.

  2. I was very sorry to hear of Jim’s death. I enjoyed filing with him at Hospice. The last time I saw him was the last time we filed just before they closed everything down for the virus. We had many fun and good conversations. He was always cheerful. I talked to him only a few weeks ago. I’m so glad I decided to call him when I did.

  4. What a blessing it has been to have Jim as our neighbor for over 15 years. Jim always greeted us with a smile, story, and conversation. He was genuine and took an interest in our children’s lives. We as a family were reflecting on our interactions with Jim over the years and each and every one of our thoughts about him made us smile. We are sad about his loss and he will be missed by us. Our thoughts are with his family.

  9. I called him my Ohio Dad, My girls called him Grandpa….he helped to guide me (from the age of 8) on this life journey when he met my wonderful Momma Linda and later made her his wife (we all know the story). I will miss him dearly, but I also will take and share all the wonderful things he has taught me through the years. I’m thankful for all his friends, family, and loved ones who have shared in celebrating both life and there after with our family, you all have a special place in my heart. Until we meet again Dad, I love you ♡

  10. Jim was a long time friend, and will be missed very much. I grew up across the street from his parents, Harry and Lucille, and have many fond memories of the Straub family. Jim was a very caring person, who gave of himself to help others in need. Rest In Peace, Jim! You’ve earned it.

  12. On behalf of the Akron Post-Polio Support Group, of which Jim was a member for many, many years, we are very heartbroken to hear of his passing. We know he was suffering many health issues and rests in peace now. We will forever remember his (& Linda’s) friendship and the joy we shared with them over the years at our various social events and monthly meetings in Akron until he was unable to drive that far of a distance. What a true gentleman he was…always in all of our hearts. Deepest sympathy, Members of the Akron-Post-Polio Support Group.

  13. On behalf of the entire Akron Post-Polio Group, we were greatly saddened to learn of Jim’s passing. He was a very important part of our support group over many years. He & Linda enjoyed our social gatherings and monthly meetings for several years before he became unable to make the drive from Wooster to Akron. He was a fine gentleman and always had a twinkle in his eye. Jim will be greatly missed, but his memory will remain with us always and he will forever be in our hearts. After enduring so many health issues, we are assured he is at peace now. Loving sympathy, The Akron Post-Polio Support Group
