Jake Cassady, 49, of Wooster passed away June 16th  at his home with his family by his side after a brief hard fought battle with cancer.
Jake was born in Wooster on December 22, 1971 to Rex and Jean Cassady. He was a graduate of Northwestern Local Schools and Youngstown State University. Although Jake left the area for several years after graduating, he found his way back home to his community. After working in the hotel industry as a region manager, Jake started 7&7 Woodworking in a basement shop 18 years ago where he had the dream to transform houses into beautiful homes for his customers. He had a true gift for fine craftsmanship.
His greatest joy was being a very involved father to his two amazing children, Sara and James. He was proud of Sara for being wise beyond her years and her courage to takes risks. His mini me, James, shares Jake’s boundless energy and love of all things sports related. Jake led by example showing them how to work harder than anyone else at all things, bring value to your community and how to be a great father, husband, son, son in law, brother, uncle and friend.
Jake was a proud active member involved in many organizations in his short time here with us. For the past 15+ years, Jake took great pride in leading the Northwestern Youth Football program. He relished watching the young players improve, laugh and develop life-long friendships as he did growing up. Jake was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Jake had a love for all things outdoors. On family beach vacations, he was the first one in the water surfing with the kids and competitively playing baseball on the beach. In the evenings, he was taking the kids fishing and searching for the best ice cream on the island.
Preceding Jake in death were his parents Rex and Jean, sister Julie and nephew, Eric Campbell.
Left to carry out his legacy are his wife of nearly 21 years, Amy, whom he married May 27, 2000; his 2 children Sara and James; sisters Judy Schrader, Jill Litten (Bryan), Jennifer Adair, Jo Ellen Morris, and Janis Bowen; brothers Jac Campbell (Terri), Jim Campbell and Mike Cassady (JoAnn); in laws, Mike McNicol (Kim), Tina Preston, Jo Lewis (Mike) along with mother in law, Kathy McNicol. Jake was also fortunate to be surrounded by many amazing nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, Jake also  leaves behind  a tremendous amount of dear friends. His friends and community humbled him with an outpouring of love and support during his fight. Words cannot express our gratitude for the prayers, countless kind gestures and notes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Wayne County Community Foundation, 517 N. Market Street, Wooster, OH 44691 for the #7 Jake Cassady scholarship fund which will support Jakes’s passion for our youth and education. Memorials may also be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Road, Wooster, OH 44691 and St. Mary Church.
If you want to honor Jake’s memory today, go spend time with a young person by having a conversation, reading a book or grabbing a ball and playing some catch. Jake also taught us the gift of giving two armed hug ™s. Give the person standing next to you a two armed hug today.

  9. We were sorry to read the sad news about Jake. He was one of the nicest students at Northwestern High School. We followed many of Jake’s school activities because he was in the same grade and on the same teams as our son Mike. We are certainly reminded again how true it is that “life isn’t fair.” We hope that many good memories will help you through this sad time. Our sincere condolences to all of you.
