WOOSTER – Lucile H. Lucy Culbertson, 99, of Wooster went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 6, 2021 at the Avenue of Wooster, just 10 days shy of her 100th  birthday.
She was born December 16, 1921 in Wooster the daughter of Benton G. and Grace Kaufman Hay.
She was a graduate of Wooster High School, attended Wooster College for 2 years and then Wooster Business College. Lucile worked some years in the secretarial field and returned to college and graduated from Ohio Northern to be a teacher. She taught at Melrose Elementary for 22 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Lucy was a Christ follower who loved the Lord and found great comfort in reading the Bible. She was also a member of the D.A.R., the Wayne County Teachers Assn. and the Book Club.
She enjoyed traveling and had gone on many cruises with Widows, Widowers & Friends and had traveled many times to Europe, Hawaii and around the world. Her favorite place to visit was Lakeside, OH and because of her it became a special and most cherished place to visit for her children and grandchildren. Lucy was a lover of all animals, especially her beloved Pomeranian dogs. Lucy was witty, smart and loving and will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her family and friends.
Lucile is survived by a son Steven W. Culbertson of Wooster; a son-in-law Randy Holbrook of Doylestown; grandchildren Matt (Nikki) Holbrook, Erin (Darren) Webb, Alyssa Holbrook and Sarah (Aidan) Finn; great-grandchildren Dez Culbertson, Carter Holbrook, Lucas Holbrook, Camden Finn and Colby Finn; nieces and nephews Elaine Pretzlaf, Diane Bosse and Richard (Bobi) Bosse; best friend Karen McReynolds.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Sarah Bosse, brother-in-law Eldon Bosse, loving daughter Sally Holbrook and grandsons Christopher Holbrook and Trin Culbertson and best friend for over 60 years Virginia Clippinger.
Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. service on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the Mclntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with Pastor Arnie Kaufmanofficiating. Burial will follow in the Wooster Cemetery.

  3. Saddened to hear about Mrs. Culbertson. I loved having her as my 3rd grade teacher at Melrose Elementary. This amazing teacher taught me so much. She was a favorite.

  6. I was a student at Melrose Elementary and remember her well. She was very kind lady. The world needs more teachers like Mrs. Culbertson. Extending my deepest sympathy to her family. RIP
