Gloria M. Spencer, 91, passed away on December 27, 2021 at Ohio s Hospice LifeCare, with family by her side.
Gloria was born on April 13, 1930 to Anthony and Verna Munchak. She grew up in Pennsylvania where she enjoyed helping in the family business, Wildwood Tavern. Even after moving to Ohio, she looked forward to visiting family in Pennsylvania.
She married her true love, Max R. Spencer, on October 2, 1950 and had three children: Maxine Fockler, Marie (Ken) Smetzer, and Alan Spencer, all of Wooster.
Gloria was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always did her best. Her family would describe her as having a heart of gold, a kind voice, and an ornery side that always kept visits fun.
Before retiring in 1995, Gloria adored working in the children s section of Freedlander s Department Store. She loved spending days feeding the squirrels and birds from her back patio, tinkering in her flower beds, and taking care of stray kittens. She is known to family for making the best lemon meringue pies, and loved the tradition of buying personal Christmas ornaments for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. These are the treasures her family will hold onto and will bring comfort for years to come.
She is survived by her children; her grandchildren Kim (Virlen) Jarvis, Earl Fockler, Traci Smetzer, Joy Smetzer, Jamie (Josh) Smetzer, and Jessica (Chad) Kiefer; great-grandchildren Micah, Mikayla, and Malachi Jarvis, Collin and Ty Fockler, Alixandria and Oriana Smetzer, Symara, Adalyn and Hadley Kiefer; sister Irene Cook of Curwensville PA.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Wooster.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother and sister-in-law Tony (Marge) Munchak, and son-in-law Ken Smetzer.
A private family service will be held.

So sorry for your loss. Gloria was a regular at downtown Buehler’s where I work. She was a kind and fun person to talk to! I worked back in the deli. She knew all of our names. I think I speak for all my co-workers that Gloria was one of our favorite customers! She will not be forgotten! My thoughts and prayers to the family.
She was a wonderful lady! Was my parents neighbor and was such a great person to everyone!
So sorry for your loss. It is going to be a very difficult time for the family. She was the center of your universe. I was always warmly welcomed to her home when I stopped by with Al,who she always called Hone. She always reminded me of my own mother had she lived to be Gloria’s age. You are so fortunate to have had her in your lives for such a long time. Be brave and be strong just like she was. Peace will come to you.
