  4. Vanessa, Zack, and Bryce, I am terribly sorry to learn of Nate’s passing. I never knew a man that took such great pride and care in coaching gold gloves baseball. I remember the time I ran into Nate in the bathroom in the Fort Laudable airport in Florida on the way home from each of our cruise vacations. Him and I came walking out and Vanessa said, Nate, who is that, and he replied, one of my umpires from gold gloves baseball and you said only you could run into someone we know from over 1000 miles away from home. Nate will truely be missed by a lot of people. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers!

  10. Not even sure what to say as Nate was such a great guy and would be the first person there to help you if you ever needed any type of help (especially at the ball field). We are so deeply sorry for your family’s loss. Nate and Vanessa brought up two great kids that Nate could talk to you for hours about both of them. Been around Nate for years on both a softball and baseball field and it was great to have him as a friend. The Butcher family will be in our thoughts and prayers! Nate — I will truly miss you.

  11. I never knew someone who could have more passion for the game of baseball than me, but Nate surpassed me for sure. He truly loved the game, loved the boys he coached and gave everything he could as Smithville youth baseball commish, as well as county commish. He will be missed by so many, my sincere condolences and thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

It was nice to get to know Nate and spend the last several years working together for the sake of Wayne County baseball while also enjoying a healthy competitive spirit on the fields as well. 30. Please accept my deepest condolences on Nate’s passing. I’ve talked with lots of former teammates like me who played slowpitch softball with Nate and we are all shocked and deeply saddened.
We share very similar opinions of Nate: outstanding player, fierce competitor, dependable and no one had a bad word to say about him. We also all pretty much agree that he was one of the most aggressive base runners we’ve ever met, often trying to take the extra base while the rest of us were saying “stop!” He could play anywhere on the field and was a great hitter. Nate transitioned into being a dad and coach with the same kind of intensity and commitment and has left a great legacy. Just like Nate got the most out of every trip around the bases, it seems that he got the most of out every day he had on this Earth. RIP Butch #2
