Jon E. Stahl, 65, of Smithville died on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at his home.

He was born October 20, 1956 in Wooster to John D. and Mae Tobias Stahl.  On September 19, 1992, he married Susan R. Hillyer.  She survives.

Jon was a graduate of Wooster High School and the Northwest Technical College of Ohio.  He began his career as Comptroller of Classic VW in Madisonburg in 1978 and took it through several different owners until he retired in 2017 from Toyota VW of Wooster.

Jon loved to fish with his wife and grandchildren.  He loved the Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed going to yard sales and playing cards.  Most of all, he especially loved playing with his grandchildren.  Jon was a very loving person.

Along with his wife, Susan, he is survived by his sons Curtis Hillyer and Lucas (Shana) Hillyer; grandchildren Connor, Isabella, David Lee, Declan and Annabelle; brother in law Denzel Peterman; nephew D.G. Peterman and a niece Vicki (David) Svegle.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ruth Peterman.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 777 S. Summit St., Smithville with Pastor Kristy Buyok officiating.

Friends will be received on Saturday from 3:00-6:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.

  2. Jon was a wonderful neighbor of ours as he was growing up on Melrose Dr. we loved all of our neighborhood picnics with family. Jon would play whiffleball with our daughters. Jon was a very dependable, kind, and caring man. We felt very blessed to have (Johnny) in our lives. Our heart goes out to ALL of his family.

  3. I had the honor and privilege of working with Jon at Toyota Volkswagen of Wooster. He was such a kind and sweet man always ready with a joke, Or A helpful tip, Or just a listening ear if I had a problem with something. I’m blessed to have been able to call him my friend. My condolences go out to Susan and her family. I’m so sorry for your loss but I hope the memories will help get you through this Difficult time.
