Earl Lee Haines, 79, of Wooster, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Danbury Wooster, surrounded by loved ones following an extended period of declining health.

He was born August 10, 1944 in Akron to the late Earl Leroy and Marie Pearl Williamson Haines.  He graduated from East High School in Akron and received his BS degree from Akron University and his MBA from Case Western Reserve.  He married Joan Buchholz on October 24, 1981.

He enjoyed sailing, reading, cooking and making wine.  He enjoyed cooking for friends and family and especially enjoyed cooking for his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed running and playing golf after retirement.  He served his country in the Marine Corp with a tour in Vietnam.

Earl started his work career at Goodyear in Akron, then on to Rubbermaid Inc in Wooster for 20 years, Royal Grip Company in Arizona, Excel Polymers LLC in Wisconsin and Ohio retiring in 2008 and moving to North Carolina then returning to Wooster in 2020.

Earl is survived by his wife, Joan; son Brian (Nicole) Haines; daughter Lisa (Bret) DeCamp; grandchildren Aaren Fletcher (Kirsten) Haines, Kyle Owen (Brigitte) Haines, Connor Clive Haines, Nicholas Lynn Murray, Lauren Virginia DeCamp and Alexis “Lexi” Page DeCamp; great grandchildren Hudson Lee Haines, Emberly Mae Haines, Blake Ryan Haines, Harper Amayah Murray and Oaklynn Maggie Haines.  He is also survived by a sister Earliene (Szolt, dec.) Sziraky; sisters in law Helen (Charles) Grassbaugh, Sally (Thomas) George and Faye (David) Blough along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceded Earl in death in addition to his parents was a brother in law Szolt Sziraky and a nephew Christopher Sziraky.

Following his wishes of cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with Father Stephen Moran as celebrant.  Inurnment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Friday, September 22, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster .

The family would like to thank the staff of Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, Danbury Woods (all the many staff members for their wonderful care) and Dr. Naumoff.

  1. Joan I was sorry to hear of Earl passing! I know how you feel! You will miss him terribly! But I get by with the sweet memories of my husband Larry knowing that he is so much happier in heaven! Earl left a great legacy with how fantastic all of our grandchildren turned out to be . And our Haines boys carry the name proudly! Love to you and Brian and Lisa!
