Evelyn M. Kaufman, 92, of Wooster passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Danbury of Wooster.

She was born on May 9, 1931 in Wayne Co., OH the daughter of John and Mary Showalter Shafer.  On July 27, 1963, she married Glenn Kaufman. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1983.

Evelyn was a Ashland High School graduate.  She received her bachelor’s of science degree from Manchester College then her master’s degree from Ball State University.  Evelyn taught kindergarten at LaSalle School in Mishawaka, IN then at North School in Orrville and was a substitute teacher in Wayne Co.  She did undergrad work for adult literacy in Wooster and Brethren Volunteer Service.  Evelyn taught Sunday School at Chippewa Church of the Brethren and made many quilts with the women’s fellowship at church which were donated to missions.

She is survived by her children John (Wendy) Kaufman of Wooster and Amy (Dan) Blough of Sterling; grandchildren Bethany Kaufman, Alyssa Kaufman, Holly Blough and Evan Blough; niece Melinda Barr of Ashland.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Wilma Smith; and nephews Mark and Matthew Smith.

The family would like to thank the staff of Danbury of Wooster and LifeCare Hospice for all of their care.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 1:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with Pastor Bill Eley officiating.  Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

Friends will be received on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 6:00PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
