James “Jim” Edward Dye, 74, of Wooster died on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Arden Courts of Bath after a challenging battle with Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy. His family was by his side.

He was born March 22, 1949 in Greenfield, MA to Edward F. and June Loveland Dye, who then raised him in Orrville, OH.  On October 23, 1982, he married Cheryl Anne Clarke.  Jim made sure they were able to celebrate their 41st wedding anniversary together.

Jim graduated from Kent State University, where he played baseball and basketball, with a B.S. in Accounting.  He was rightfully proud of his successful business career which started at Bell + Howell, where he met his beautiful wife. He moved on to N.C.R. out of Dayton then to News Bank in New Caanan, CT.  After becoming a family of six, Jim decided to return “home” to Wooster to work for Seaman Corp where he started as the C.F.O. and eventually became the C.O.O. for many years.  He then moved on to Aspen Growth Strategies as their C.O.O/C.F.O. until his retirement.  Once retired, he started his own consulting company, SMF Consulting, helping many small businesses. Jim and Cheryl, with the help of their family, proudly built a 22 stall horse boarding facility, Stoney Meadow Farm, where they made wonderful memories.

Jim was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was on the board of both Laszeray Technology and Zook.  He was a former member of the Wooster Country Club.  Never one to not be busy, Jim enjoyed traveling, snow skiing, water skiing, speedboating, tennis, golf and mowing his grass.  One of his greatest hobbies was his love of Corvettes, from working on them to driving them.  He was a big Cleveland sports fan. His love of animals was so strong he passed that on to all four of his children.

Along with his wife, Cheryl, Jim is survived by (and was the best dad to) Michael Dye of Hastings, MN, Amanda (Travis) Pope of Wooster, Katherine (Brian) Webster of Arab, AL and Karin (Zach) Taylor of N. Lewisburg; loved being “Pa” to Elizabeth, Clara and Magdalyn Pope, Emerson, Bennett and Rowan Webster, Grayden and Reese Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Sharon L. Clark.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with Father Stephen Moran as celebrant. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Monday, October 30, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster, OH and 1 hour prior at the church.

Words cannot express the family’s gratitude to the entire staff at Arden Courts, who treated Jim with the utmost care and respect.  For those who wish, contributions may be directed to ProMedica Senior Care at www.promedicaseniorcare.org/giving.  Please click on the ProMedica Memory Care Fund.

  8. Cheryl, with sadness in my heart, I will always have great memories of Jim for his leadership and his friendship during the years we worked together. He always had great pride in your children and smiles as he shared their successes in their educational accomplishments as well as each new grand child. 15. Cheryl, while you may not remember me, I remember Jim well from over 20 years ago. I was with DuPont and worked supporting some of our products with Seaman Corp. and Jim. I very much enjoyed working with him and had a great deal of respect for him. He was a good friend along with being a great business contact. He spoke of you frequently. I’ve not kept up with him since then, but please know that I am very sorry for your loss of a friend and loving husband.
