Ross C. Barton, Jr., of Wooster, passed away at his home on November 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Ross attended Greensburg Elementary School and noticed a girl named Janet in the 8th grade – and the rest is history. They graduated together from Green High School in 1961 and were married on November 10, 1962.

Ross loved his family, sports, and dreamed of traveling the world. Together he and Janet traveled to all 50 states and explored 9 countries.

His unfortunate love for all Ohio sports – the Cleveland Indians, the Cavaliers and the Browns led him to a life of humility, but a win – or even one touchdown – was enough to lift his spirits.

Ross’s patience and kind demeanor made him a supportive lifelong loving teacher to his three children as well as his grandchildren, and great grandchildren who affectionately called him ‘Grandpa the Great’.

Ross and Janet are the parents of Cindy Jackson (Jim) of Dalton, Amy Harris of Ft Mill, SC, and Ross C. “Buddy” Barton III (Tammy) of Wooster.

He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 10:00AM at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., in Wooster, with Doyle Lott officiating.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 5:00PM – 8:00PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to People to People Ministries, 454 E. Bowman St., Wooster, OH 44691.

  7. Sorry to hear about Ross’ passing. I worked with Ross for several years at Akron Brass and he was truly one of the “good guys”. He was always so easy to work with and always had a positive attitude. Also enjoyed our good times on the softball field all those many years ago. May his family find comfort in the many great memories you all share. May he RIP.

  8. My dear Janet,
Please know that my heart is aching with yours. How well I remember your high school romance, then your wedding and later on your wonderful energetic dancing at your 50th Anniversary. So grateful that you shared such a beautiful life together with such a large happy family.
    Hugs and tears from Liz

  9. Ross was far more than just the man who married my cousin. For all these decades he was my friend and close family member. I so admired his sense of humor, his integrity and devotion to Janet and his entire family. Amy’s recent post about her dad is a great tribute. That was our Ross. R I P my friend.
