David Alan Munn, 76, of Wooster died on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Sycamore Run.  His last 16 years were spent battling Parkinson’s Disease.  He never gave up the fight.

He was born March 27, 1947 in Elyria to Alan and Lois Landfried Munn.  After serving two years in the US Army during Vietnam, he returned to school and earned three degrees in Agriculture and Agronomy at The Ohio State University.  He graduated in the tumultuous time of Kent State (1970).

Dave worked at the Ohio State ATI for 34 years as an Associate Professor of Soils, Agronomy and Environmental Sciences.  He had many students come up to him long after retirement and thank him for being a great teacher.  Dave cherished these encounters.  He loved teaching and counselling his students.  He shared this premise with them: “It is your education, and some assembly will be required.”

He is survived by the two beautiful women in his life: Marilyn, who gave him two beautiful children, Laurie M. (Daniel) Walker and Jeff (Karen) Munn and by his wife Patricia who gave him joy and wonderful care in his last years.  He is also survived by his brother Larry (Mary Lynne) Munn; mother-in-law Dolores Moats; step-children Julie (Russell) Brinker, Jean Harbert, Robert (Jennifer) Harbert and Jennifer Slack; grandchildren Brian, Tyler and Madeline Walker, Katherine and Aaron Munn; step-grandchildren Anna (Mike) Smith, Tyler (Bethany) Eley, Joseph Ely, Christina (Carl) Dantone, Caleb Edgar, Cadie Brinker, Kyle Harbert, Jillian Harbert and Carter Slack; two step-great-grandchildren Taylin Marie Smith and Carl James Dantone, IV; special cousins Kathy (Mike) Flummer and Tom (Sean) Landfried and two special friends Shah (Carolyn) Rahnema and Michael (Mary) Fulton.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents

  7. Pat so sorry for your loss. I will always remember the day you were walking up the church isle pulling the walker, and Dave was standing at the back leaning on the wall. When you realized Dave wasn’t with you, you said I thought he was walking kind of fast.

  12. Pat and family,

I’m disappointed that I could not attend the visitation time or the memorial service due to being out-of-town. I greatly appreciated getting to know David as a faculty colleague at Ohio State ATI. He was an excellent example for me of servant leadership. He was a great citizen at ATI – always kind, generous, thoughtful, and desired the best for everyone. Thanks, David, for your gracious life. Your are in my prayers.
