Clifford Berner, 81, of Wooster, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023. Clifford was born on December 15, 1941, at Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg, OH to Henry and Eva (Gilt) Berner. He was the third of five children. A graduate from Lakeville High School, Cliff was active in baseball and basketball. He went on to graduate from The Wooster Business College where he studied accounting and finance.

Cliff worked most of his career at Astro Metallurgical in Wooster, starting as an accountant and later becoming Vice President of Finance and part owner. Upon retiring from Astro, he went to work for Ashland Plastics and G&S Titanium.

A devoted son, brother, husband, and father, Cliff was generous to all who knew him. He spent much of his time supporting and coaching his children’s activities and was an avid golfer.

He is survived by his children Brad (fiancé Lisa Leonard) Berner of Columbus, OH, and Beth (Miguel) Cira of Holly Ridge, NC; siblings Debbie (David) Garver of Lakeville, OH, and Robin (Richard) Spade of Wooster, OH; sisters-in-law Virginia (Gordon) Settle of Lewisville, TX, and Tuyet (Tran) Homer of Melbourne Beach, FL; brothers-in-law Phillip (Valerie) Homer of Big Fork, MT, Mike (Joy) Homer of Loudonville, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cliff is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Roberta “Bobby” (Homer) Berner; his parents; sisters Mary (husband Atlee) Stutzman of Wooster, and Shirley (husband Harold) of Bolivar; brothers-in-law Harold Homer of Canton, Robert Homer of Melbourne Beach, FL, William Homer of Wooster, John Homer of Wooster, and Richard Homer of Melbourne Beach, Fl.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 10:00am until 12:00pm with funeral services to be held immediately after at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., in Wooster. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.

  2. So sorry to see Cliff’s passing. Cliff attended the Wooster Business College while I attended also. We became friends at that time and continued our relationship through his business career. Played many rounds of golf together at Mohican Hills and also in Florida while he lived there. Many fond memories of our times together. RIP Cliff.
