Paul Philip Fischer, Jr., 83, of Wooster, entered into the hands of the Lord on February 24, 2024.  He was born in Massillon, Ohio on July 31, 1940 to Paul and Edna (Heasley) Fischer. The family moved to Wooster when he was young. However, Paul never forgot his Massillon roots having been a proud and loyal Massillon Tiger football fan and season ticket holder for over 30 years.

Paul’s first love was his family. He married Sandra (Goodhart) Fischer and together they have three daughters, Anjie (Pierre) Alexander, Chris (Troy) Boatner, and Marianne (Glenn) Galang.  Paul loved and mentored his grandchildren, Will Horton (Madison), Drew Boatner, Amber (Carlin) Tiano, Trent Boatner, Brianna (Zac) Lowther, Devin Galang, and Curtis Collins III (deceased).  Paul referred to himself as “Great-est Grandpa”, and loved to tease, Grayson and Atticus Horton, Emmett, Evelyn, and Eleanor Boatner, Graham, Oliver, Easton, and Gracelynn Tiano, and Isabelle and Gabrielle Lowther. Paul is also survived by his brother Tom (Betty) Fischer of Florida, his special cousins from Warren and Massillon, Ohio and many close friends that are considered family.

Paul graduated in 1958 from Wooster High School where he made many life-long friends playing football. He also wrestled placing third in the state championship his senior year.  He graduated from Hiram College where he obtained a teaching degree and played football. Paul took a teaching/coaching position in Michigan and another at Boy’s Village in Wooster before being employed by Rubbermaid for 30 years. Paul held several managerial positions while at Rubbermaid. Because of his love for people, his greatest joy was working as Human Resources Manager, where he hired a large number of the factory workforce in the 1970’s and 1980’s. He always said, “That was a really special group, they were just good people.” He knew them all by name, and remained long-time friends with many.  Paul was an avid Notre Dame Football fan. He was an exercise enthusiast spending many summer evenings at “the courts” playing basketball with people of all ages and walks of life, running, playing softball, or at the YMCA playing paddleball and racquetball or using their fitness equipment.  Paul was a devoted member of St Mary, of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Wooster.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 12:00 PM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with Fr. Stephen Moran as celebrant.  Inurnment will be held at a later date in St. Mary Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the organizations that Paul considered the real heroes: St Jude Children’s Research Hospital http://fundraising.stjude.org/goto/PaulFischer or Tunnel to Towers Foundation www.t2t.org in memory of Paul Fischer.

For all those who knew him well, T-I-G…

  13. Prayers to the entire Fischer Family. I have many memories from my childhood of playing pickup basketball with Mr. Fischer at the outside basketball courts at the old high school. Also, spent many evenings watching him and my dad play racquetball at the YMCA. I always enjoyed our conversations that we had ,in recent years, when I would see him while I was walking our dog in the neighborhood. He was always so kind to me and my family.

    RIP Mr. Fischer

    God Bless

  21. Paul was a great friend and treated you as a real person, not as just another number on the job! He always remembered us by name no matter how long it was between running into each other. He gave me my 30 year award at Rubbermaid and I was surprised at all the information he had found on me, even the part time job I worked during High School!! 25. Mrs Fischer,
I was saddened to learn of Paul’s passing. He and I first met in my office at the Wooster Clinic and we then reconnected at the Wooster YMCA. Paul was a fine man and it was always a pleasure to spend time talking with him. I was always impressed by his commitment to keep himself in top physical shape which I am certain served to prolong his life. I greatly enjoyed his little humor book which brought more than a few chuckles. We need more men like Paul Fischer. Please accept my sincere sympathy.

  26. Prayers to Sandy and family. We are so sorry to hear of your loss of Paul. We are in South Carolina for the Winter and will not be able to attend the Memorial; know, however, that our thoughts are with you. We will miss seeing Paul in Church as well as missing his vibrant personality. Both Barb and I (Rich) will always remember how kind and caring he was to Carole, Barb’s sister, when she lived on Gasche Street next to Paul’s mother. Bless you and your family.

  27. How lucky our family is to have moved into a new neighborhood and be immediately welcomed by Paul and Sandy! Over the last dozen years as we got to know them better, we affectionately called them our “neighborhood grandparents”. They always wanted know about how our kids were doing and what they were up to. One big task that was handed over yo one of my boys was to mow the lawn, which many of you know had to be done in just a certain way. We will truly miss Paul but are lucky to still have Sandy.
