Morris Emil Van Vooren, 91, of Milford formerly of Wooster OH passed away peacefully at Pinebrook Retirement Community, in Milford, OH on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 3:19 PM at the Hour of Mercy. 3/19 is the Feast Day of Saint Joseph, Patron of the Holy Death and of Fathers.

He was born on September 15, 1932, in Independence, IA to Gilbert and Mabel Werner Van Vooren.  On July 10, 1954 he married Cecelia Monaghan; she preceded him in death in 2010.

Morris proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.  He was a long time Ceramic Engineer for Owens-Illinois where traveled extensively doing consulting work. He enjoyed golf, sailing and snow skiing.

He was a very devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary Parish, and participated in bible study, and other church programs. He was a proud supporter of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers.

Morris is survived by his children Robert “Bob” (Beth) Van Vooren of Whispering Pines, NC, Brent and Eric Van Vooren and Lynn (John) Periatt all of Milford; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; siblings Richard (Marie) Van Vooren of Long Beach, CA, and Helen Trower of New York, NY.

He is preceded in death by his parents’, sister Maxine Zion, and daughter-in-law Cindy Van Vooren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave. Wooster with Rev. Stephen Moran officiating.  Burial will follow at St Mary’s Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of contributions be directed to Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, P.O. Box 302, Maryknoll, NY 10545-0302 with the note in the memo line Catholic Missionary Ministry.

  2. I want to send our deepest sympathy to all the family (especially to my special friend Eric who is very dear to me). We had the privilege of meeting and knowing both Morris and Cecelia through there son Eric whom I worked with at the College of Wooster. And I enjoyed many visits with though the years. Morris will truly be missed by everyone whose lives they touched. Sending love and prayers to ALL the loving and caring family, Greg & Marita Buchanan

  4. My sympathy to the Van Vooren family. I had the pleasure of caring for his wife, Cecelia. His devotion to her and his faith were unmatched.

    Over time we became friends. I would visit him and Eric around Christmas and take them homemade chocolate candy. He and Eric were always thankful.
    Heaven has gained another angel, he will be united with the love of his life.

    My best to you all in this time of sadness and celebration of a life well lived.

  6. Morris was a great loving brother to me, and he will be missed so much by me and my family. Love, Richard, Marie; Children: Christina, Nancy, Michael, Andrew, Joseph, and Mary and their families. I will miss talking to him on the phone. We pray for him and lovely wife, C’Ann.
