Jacqueline “Jackie” M. Santangelo (née Schwartz), 96, of Wooster, OH, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at The Avenue at Wooster.

She was born to the late Lillian Margaret Schwartz and Francis William Schwartz on October 29, 1927, in Cleveland, OH.  She was married to Henry E. Santangelo for over 50 years before he preceded her in death in 1998.

Jackie provided a foundation of love for her family and lived her faith to the fullest as a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception.  Over the years, she was a homemaker, worked for Freelander’s, Crum Drugs, and Hawkins Cafeteria, but her real passion was travel.  She lived her life to the fullest through travel, visiting Italy 3 times to see the Pope, cruising the waterways of the world on 12 cruises(!), enjoying the mountains of Tennessee, visiting family in Virginia, and somehow finding time to make it to Amish country at least twice a month.  Jackie bestowed her thoughtfulness and generosity on friends and family, offering to take them on adventures with her, whether it was a cruise, a concert, or even shopping for and gifting clothes. She was always a giver.  And boy, did she have a sweet tooth!   Chocolate in any shape or form, potato chips with Helluva Good Dip – bacon and horseradish flavor, Pepsi straight from the bottle, and Bullseye candies, those were her Achilles’ heel.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews from the McClelland, Young, Bartholomew, and Santangelo families.

Jackie was also preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Mary Lou McClelland, Kathy Bartholomew, Pauline Santangelo and Rita Young.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster, OH, with Rev. David Chojnacki officiating.  Private inurnment will be in St. Mary Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster, OH is assisting the family.

The family requests that In lieu of flowers, contributions be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

  8. A beautiful soul, full of joy! I was first her travel agent, then she became a treasured friend. I can still hear her calling me “dear heart”. I lived vicariously through her adventures, cruises, visiting her sister and her trips to Rome – all by herself! I will miss her and remember her always!
