Irene “Tigyer” Szala, 93, passed away on March 28, 2024 in Niceville, Florida, where she had resided for the past two years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Robert “Bob” Szala, and her daughter, Stephanie Crowther.

She was born December 21, 1930, in Portage, Pennsylvania.

Together, Irene and Bob owned and operated Bob’s Wooster Food Market, spanning four decades of service and commitment to the community.  When not working alongside of Bob, Irene enjoyed her beautiful gardens and an occasional trip to Atlantic City.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Marcia) Szala, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Irene was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Private family graveside services were held at St. Mary’s Cemetery with Fr. Stephen P. Moran, officiating.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster assisted the family.
