Shirley A. Catanzarite, 88 of Wooster passed away Monday, April 29, 2024, at Danbury.

She was born on July 6, 1935, in Dowell, MD to Charles and Velma Humphreys Dowell.  On November 14, 1953, she married Anthony “Tony” Catanzarite, he preceded her in death in 2017.

Shirley was past president of the Wooster Emblem Club, loved working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles, to cook, spoiling her grandchildren and dogs.  Shirley was a homemaker a wonderful mother & grandmother and loved attending all of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her children Antoinette “Toni” (Chuck) Sprosty of Wooster, Andy (Anne) Catanzarite of Smithville, Chuck (Janis) Catanzarite of Brecksville, Tom (Laura) Catanzarite of Wooster; grandchildren Christopher Sprosty, Elizabeth (Stevie) Smith, Carli (Mike) Garrard, Joseph (Megan) Catanzarite Clayton Catanzarite, Sarah (Kenneth) Rogers, Anthony Catanzarite, Ben Kois; great grandchildren Colton, Mila and Carter Garrard, Mirus and Amare Rogers, Marlee Catanzarite, Maverick Adkins and Thea Catanzarite; siblings Vashti (Al) Fraser of Florida, Charles (Brenda) Dowell Jr., Jeannie (Jim) Franklin, brother in law Ned Dobson and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Tony, her parents, sister Arvin Dobson, grandchildren T.J. Catanzarite, Jennifer Sprosty, great grandchild Casus Rogers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with Father Stephen Moran officiating.

Friends will be received on Thursday, from 9:00 until the start of the Mass at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Ohio Elks Cerebral Palsy Fund, Chuck Hilyard, CP Treasurer, 6026 White Oak Dr. Toledo, OH 43615, or to the National MPS Society, c/o Donations P.O. Box 14686 Durham, NC 27709-4686.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

  2. Shirley and Tony were the best neighbors ever. They welcomed us in 1972 when we moved next door. We miss them both and cherish our memories of them. Our sympathy to their children and grandchildren, and hope the home stays in the family to keep their memory alive.

  7. Sorry for the loss of your mom Toni and all the other family members I met..Big hugs along with my thoughts and prayers..I lost my dad July of 2022 so I was very sad to see her obit in the paper… RIP Shirley. .

  10. I’m so sorry for the whole Catanzarite family and all other connected relatives, in losing Shirley. She was always so kind to me and I’ll always remember her smile and warm nature.
    God won himself another wonderful angel.
